Our world becomes more “Digital” with each passing day – But many of our daily interactions still rely on paper. Items such as corrugated packaging, printed photos, marketing materials, newspapers or currency are all produced by precise machines that are built to run for long durations.
The motion of these machines must be precise, reliable and durable, to accommodate the high uptime required by their respective processes.
Application Challenges:
•Footprint – while the applications vary widely, most of the machines involved in paper processing are made up of several motors. Smaller motors that provide the proper torque and speed will result in a smaller and lighter overall machine.
•Power & Performance – high speeds are almost always preferred during in-feed and out-feed stages of the printing process.
•Flexibility – low speeds are needed for fine adjustments during printing.
•Durability – dust, oils and ink can accumulate on drive wheels and contaminate bearings and gearboxes.
Typical Motion Solutions:
Motors:
Pittman DC motors have a wide range of frame sizes and magnetic technologies from 26 to 54mm diameter and power ratings up to 100 watts. Each motor is designed to offer smooth low speeds, quiet operation and long life.
With so many options to choose from, designers are invited to fill out a simple questionnaire to help select the right Motor for their application.
Gearboxes:
Haydon Kerk Pittman offers a cost-effective series of spur gearboxes featuring sintered steel gears to complement our motors. These gearboxes, when added to Haydon Kerk Pittman motors, offer greater flexibility to the designer. Spur gearboxes provide an offset output shaft and are offered with sleeve or ball bearings, optional lubricants for extreme temperatures, and Delrin gears for reduced noise. Shortened housings are available for select ratios.
HKP also offers a series of planetary gears with different ratios and stages. The planetary series provides a centered output shaft for servo and continuous duty power transmission applications. Planetary gearboxes are offered with plastic or metal gears and can be customized with sleeve or ball bearings on the input and output shafts.
