A suction machine, also known as a suction unit or aspirator, is a medical device used to remove mucus, saliva, blood and other bodily fluids from a patient's airway, lungs or respiratory tract. These devices are used in emergency situations, such as drowning rescues, and they are more commonly used in hospitals, clinics and home care settings for patients who have difficulty clearing secretions on their own, due to conditions such as respiratory illnesses, surgery, or neurological impairments.
The components of a Sputum Suction Machine include:
- Suction Pump: creates a vacuum that provides the necessary suction power.
- Collection Canister: collects the fluids and secretions removed from the patient.
- Suction Tubing: connects the pump to the collection canister and extends to the patient.
- Catheter tube: is inserted into the airway to reach the secretions that need to be removed.
- Regulator: allows the user to adjust the level of suction pressure.
PITTMAN DC040B motors drive the piston structure of Sputum Suction Machines to control the pressure and frequency of pumping.
Application Challenges:
- Small and lightweight for ease of carrying
- High flow and High vacuum pressure
- High torque and speed
- Safe and reliable for children
- 12V,24V or 36V for connection to vehicles
- Long life over 3000h
- Low noise.

Important Safety Considerations:
Sputum Suction Machines are vital tools in respiratory care. They help to maintain clear airways and improve breathing for patients. Their operation relies on a tightly controlled vacuum to remove fluids safely. Sterility is an important factor when using these machines, in order to avoid infections. Equally important are the pressure settings – as too much pressure could cause tissue damage.
Flexible motor solutions are critical to ensuring the safe and successful operation of these machines – and Pittman Motors have a long and successful track record with these applications.
