HKP Motion Solutions Bring Satellite Connectivity to the Mobile Leisure Market

Satellite

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, demand for travel and leisure activities that offer a closer connection with nature has significantly increased. With this growth comes increased expectations for remote online connectivity. Fortunately, HKP motion solutions power some of the most innovative satellite systems that enable people to work, play, travel and stay in touch from anywhere on the planet.

The global mobile leisure market, which includes recreational vehicles, yachts, and sport utility vehicles (SUVs) is a large market that is growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 7 percent.

The growth in this market is driven by consumer interests in outdoor activities. A critical requirement for this industry is enhanced online access in remote locations.

Online connectivity is essential to enabling people to work, play and stay in touch anywhere, anytime. The rise of digital platforms (and their expanded functionality) also contributes to market growth. Today, it’s much easier to travel to a place that you have never been before, and research, plan and book local activities once you get there – as long as you have reliable online access.

HKP plays an important role in facilitating remote satellite connectivity. HKP actuators, brush motors, gearboxes, encoders and brakes are widely used in remote satellite, and other wireless systems. These solutions can be vehicle-mounted or fixed within buildings. With most systems, multiple HKP motors are used to control rotation and pitch angles.

Application Challenges:

The motion solutions that power remote access systems face a number of design challenges:

  • Reliability is paramount; water & dust resistance is necessary, and some units are used in harsh environments, so the equipment must be able to withstand wide temperature ranges from -40-80°C
  • A small footprint is required: in addition to providing compact motors, an angled gearbox can also reduce space.
  • Accuracy & Precision are critical: the more accurate the encoder, the stronger the star search signal.

Preferred Motion Solutions:

The DC054B series brush commutated DC motor is a 54 mm diameter unit offered in 7 lengths with continuous output torques of 0.071 to 0.35 Nm.
