HKP Motors Power The Latest Robot Fire-Fighting Systems

Firefighting Robot
A firefighting robot is a high-tech device designed for dangerous situations, such as chemical fires. These robots are capable of adapting to different terrains, such as stairs, slopes and rough ground, and they are often used when humans cannot go deep into locations that are filled with thick smoke and high temperatures.

Firefighters operate these robotic devices from a safe distance, guiding them via remote control to the core area of the fire scene. The robots are equipped with a range of sensors to monitor temperatures, toxic gas concentrations and they provide fire source location data in real-time at the scene.

HKP Motors are used in firefighting robots to perform a range of tasks, such as powering the water pumps, turning the pumps on and off, controlling the tracks that move the robot, and also controlling the angle and movement of the nozzle that delivers the water or fire suppressant foam.

Key Challenges:

  • Strong overload capacity in short time
  • Good stability and consistency
  • Waterproof and corrosion resistant
  • Vibration resistance
  • Must be able to tolerate 80°C environments

Typical Current Motion Solutions:

Pump switch control: DC030B

The DC030B series brush commutated DC motor is a 30 mm diameter unit offered in 3 lengths with continuous output torques of 0.0113 to 0.0184 Nm.

Features:

  • Speeds up to 10,000 RPM possible
  • DC bus voltage up to 48 Vdc
  • Eight standard windings - Special windings available
  • 2 pole stator with ceramic magnets
  • 7 slot skewed armature cogging reduction
  • Sintered bronze bearings - ball bearings available
  • Copper graphite brushes - RFI suppression available

Fire Injection Angle control: DC040B

The DC040B series brush commutated DC motor is a 40 mm diameter unit offered in 6 lengths with continuous output torques of 0.017 to 0.081 Nm.

Features:

  • Speeds up to 8,000 RPM possible
  • DC bus voltage up to 48 Vdc
  • Eight standard windings - Special windings available
  • 2 pole stator with ceramic magnets
  • 7 slot skewed armature cogging reduction
  • Sintered bronze bearings - ball bearings available
  • Copper graphite brushed - RFI suppression available

Technological advancements such as firefighting robots play a key role in enhancing safety and efficiency when it comes to fighting difficult fires.  The underlying technology that powers these innovative robots also continues to improve, offering smaller, more flexible and more powerful motion solutions.

HKP is at the center of these enhancements.
