Waterbury, CT — Southington High School’s FIRST Robotics Team 195 visit to AMETEK Haydon Kerk Pittman
As one of the team sponsors, AMETEK is very proud to announce Team 195 ranked third in the world last year! It was a great time seeing The Dark Knight, their 2018 robot, talking about motion systems, and meeting new team members. With 58 students all taking part in this, Team 195 is a huge, well-oiled machine.

They kicked off their 2019 season with the announcement of this year’s game. The topic is deep space, and the game involves “refueling” a space ship on a fictional planet. The robots will have to maneuver over different surfaces, perform tasks like picking up game pieces, and even use autonomous code during a “sandstorm” on the planet. Students must design and build their robot in six weeks, all while optimizing it for performance on the game floor.
Team 195 is already in the swing of things, and rightfully so. Their first competitions are coming up fast. In late March they have a district level competition at Western New England University, and if all goes well, we’ll be cheering them on in late April at the global championships in Detroit.
